CTM at MUTEK 2006

June 2006 // Location: SAT (Société des Arts Technologiques) and others, Montreal, CA   As one of the main cooperation partners of of the 2006 edition of the MUTEK festival in Montreal, Canada,  DISK/CTM presents "Zimbos Labor" – a project of Jan Zimmermann –, the DISK/CTM Archive Station and participates in the MUTEK Intersection series.   Jan Zimmermann – Zimbos Labor During the full time span of MUTEK Jan Zimmermann sets up a recording studio complete with a vinyl-cutting machine at the basement of SAT, which will serve as an experiment station and semi-public performance space. In collaboration with artists present during the festival he will create and cut a limited amount of vinyls, unique in all respects – singular objects with recordings and sound art pieces developed in spontaneous one-time work sessions. The ongoing project "Zimbos Labor", initiated in 2004 by Jan Zimermann, focuses on the experimental exploration of vinyl records and the medium's peculiarities. Within Zimmermann's approach towards the vinyl record its original purpose as a mass medium for mechanical reproduction of sound recordings is of minor importance. In contrast he is interested in its electro-acoustic qualities, clearly distinct from any other recording media, and the musical/ performative possibilities it offers the recording artist to design, shape and manipulate sound. Zimbos Labor is a collaboration of Jan Zimmermann, DISK/ club transmediale and MUTEK with the kind support of Berlin Partner.   DISK/ CTM Archive Station DISK/CTM sets up its Archive Station at the basement of SAT, where you have access to videos, audio recordings and photographs documenting the CTM festival since its inception in 1999. Listen and watch av-performances, live- and dj-sets of many of the artists that played the festival. Next to the archive station you can browse a selection of publications on Berlin's music scene and club life including "So klingt Berlin" ("The sound of Berlin") – a online database that gives first hand information on all relevant protagonists of the Berlin music scene.   For further information see: > www.mutek.ca	> May 31, 2006
