DISK Session #14: JAMIE DROUIN & DEREK HOLZER |
// Date: Wed. June 27, 2007
// Time: 9 pm
Sound- and av-performances by Jamie Drouin, Vancouver Island, and Derek Holzer, Utrecht /Berlin.
Jamie Drouin
The work of Canadian sound and multimedia artist Jamie Drouin (born 1970) explores the subtleties of experience, with a specific interest in the way audio can dramatically alter perceptions of both physical and temporal space. Incorporating photography, video, field recordings, guitar and synthesized sounds, Drouin’s works create intricately detailed patterns and textures which, while retaining references to corporeal sources, seek to expand and transform audience perceptions of familiar habitat. Jamie Drouin prefers to perform in spaces unusual to music performances – like art galleries, project spaces, museums and the like. His recent works use recordings of the space itself as a sonic point of departure. Next to live sound performances Drouin's work encompasses sound installations, video pieces and photography.
Drouin has collaborated with the Canadian audio-visual artists Skoltz Kolgen, Yann Novak, Lance Olsen and others. He has exhibited and performed amongst other places at MUTEK festival 2007, Decibel festival in Seattle, the Montréal Museum of Contemporary Art, the Leica Gallery in Tokyo.
Jamie Drouin runs his own music label Infrequency Records, where he has published his own work and those of fellow artists Thomas Jirku, Yann Novak and Lance Olsen.
