MUTEK 2009 and ICAS Meeting |
// Date: May 27 – 31, 2009
// Various venues, Montréal, Canada
Like club transmediale, our longstanding partner, the MUTEK festival in Montrčal, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. A fact that inspirered us to jointly organize the PASS THE FLAME event at Berghain's Panorma Bar during CTM.09. Now, DISK/CTM in return has been invited by MUTEK to collaborate on the festival's opening night at SAT. Following our recent crush on french psychotronic synth music we have invited:
Zombie Zombie [FR] Turzi Electronic Experience [FR] Organ Mood [QC/CA] Pilooski [FR]
MUTEK’s first-ever club transmediale showcase focuses on the hazy lights of the retro-futuristic French psychotronic scene. The night begins with the uplifting minimal neo-psychedelics of Montreal’s audio-visual duo Organ Mood, before giving way to the solo project of the eccentric Romain Turzi. His Turzi Electronic Experience fuses krautrock and commune psychedelics while surrounded by a cavalry of vintage synthesizers that brings to mind the heyday of Jean-Michel Jarre. Afterwards it is time for the psychedlic cosmic horror kraut disco of Parisians Zombie Zombie, who arrive for in Montreal for a North American debut. The French duo rev up their otherworldly fusion of psychedelic rock and spektral electronics that raises an army of very welcomed ghosts: Can, Silver Apples, Goblin, Suicide, John Carpenter and others. The night wraps up with the D.I.R.T.Y. space disco of Pilooski, who will pick-up the synthetic propulsions of his colleguess and embed them with the irresistibly carnal handclaps that drive his much sought-after disco re-edits.
Another element of MUTEK 2009 will be the next working meeting of the festival-network International Cities of Advanced Sound – ICAS. The network is still in process to consolidate as a steady base to support the activities of its members and partners. Much care and strategic development needs to be invested to bring this idea alive. The meeting at MUTEK will be a great opportunity to take the next steps.
DISK/CTM's involvement at MUTEK is kindly supported by the Goethe Institute.
