It has been several years now that young bands have begun to show a major interest in Krautrock and/or Prog-Rock. In the case of Kraut its not exactly new, considering there were often certain music scenes which expressed interest in that style, but it was never as massive as today. Prog, on the other hand, since the days of Punk and New Wave was rarely in the focus of younger musicians.
As this phenomenon has still not been discussed profoundly in the public eye nor summarily presented, the organizers of Polyhymnia, deli.kolder and amSTARt, had the idea to organize a festival that presents a range of younger bands who are strongly influenced by Kraut and/or Prog, and who don't just copy the style, but fuse influences from the music history of the past forty years into something new that one could call Kraut or Prog of the 21st century.
On March 18 and 19, Polyhymnia, which is co-presented by DISK/CTM, will bring together the current aesthetics of projects such as Turzi, Von Spar or Schneider TM with one of the key bands of the 1970ties: Italian Prog legends Goblin will play their first ever concert in Germany in the almost 40 years of the band's existence. The 2011 version of Goblin features original members Claudio Simonetti, Massimo Morante, Maurizio Guarini plus Bruno Previtali and Titta Tani of Demonia included in the lineup.
Goblin are best known for the creation of unique and influential soundtracks to classic horror films by Italian director Dario Argento. These include 1975s "Profondo Rosso" ("Deep Red") and 1977s "Suspiria", remarkable for its experimental sounds and creepy vocals. Goblin also scored George A. Romeros "Dawn of the Dead".
Although Goblin reformed in 2009 to play five shows, this current line up marks the first time co-founder Claudio Simonetti performs with the band live since many years.
In addition to live bands there will be several DJs that play, on one hand, original material and, on the other, newer interpretations of Kraut and Prog.
Furthermore, there will be a panel debate, featuring, amongst others, Hans-Joachim Irmler, original member of Faust, to discuss the recently reinforced interest in Krautrock and Prog and their influences on the popular music of the last forty years.
