July 2012 // Venue: Le Lieu Unique, Nantes // Time: 19:00 // Entrance free // Facebook Event   Program: PHILIP SHERBURNE STEWART WALKER PETER VAN HOESEN   CTM Festival has been invited to curate three nights within Au milieu du monde - A festival of festivals, that takes place between June 15 - August 19, 2012 at Le Lieu Unique in Nantes.   Day three get's close to the club sounds that Berlin is known for world wide. With:   Stewart Walker started making electronic music in 1993 when he bought his first synthesizers and a drum machine. His first European release Artificial Music for Artificial People came out on Christian Vogel's Mosquito imprint from Brighton, England. In 1999 he released his debut on Tresor Records, Nothing Produces Stark Imagery and the now-classic album Stabiles on Mille Plateaux which cemented Stewart a seminal role in the development of minimal techno. In 2001 Stewart created his own label Persona Records with the intention to bring humanity back to electronica. After Kraftwerk, and Plastikman, he felt it was time to dispose of dehumanized avatars, and hopefully communicate human emotion through analog and digital waveforms, and occasionally the plucked guitar string. Since 2005 Stewart lives and works in Berlin. Life in Berlin strongly renewed Stewart's appreciation of club culture, and new environments to enjoy dance music. Opposite of the hard and fast techno which inspired him in the early days, he explored the bubbling micro-rhythms and looser construction utilized by contemporaries while still bringing his own melodic interpretations and unmistakably American grooves.   http://www.myspace.com/stewartwalker › personarecords.com › stewartwalker.com › soundcloud.com/sonofcataclysm   Peter van Hoesen – When it comes down to combining the best of many musical worlds, Peter Van Hoesen can say he's been doing it for a while now. Deeply rooted in the Belgian electronic music scene as DJ and producer, he is considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor jackin' techno to advanced abstract electronica. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express and Foton as well as through Berlin's Lan Muzic and Brussel's Meakusma. He is active as a DJ, producer, sound designer and composer for contemporary dance and theatre.   Peter's techno sound is best described as bass-heavy, 6 am warehouse music. His DJ and live sets never fail to add that little bit of extra bassline deepness prevalent in his productions. With a sharp ear for new sounds and scenes his musical approach is distinctly forward looking, while strongly connected to a deep knowledge of electronic dance music's rich past.   › soundcloud.com/petervanhoesen   Philip Sherburne – San Francisco/Berlin based journalist and critic Philip Sherburne studied literature and photography. Since 1996, he has written on electronic and experimental music, sound art and culture for publications such as The Wire, XLR8R, Frieze, Artbyte, Surface, Parachute, CMJ, SF Weekly, Grooves, URB, Signal to Noise and Alternative Press. His interest lies in the role of materialism in electronic music, emphasizing how processes, tools, and technology impact upon form.
