HER GHOST
A tribute to Chris Marker's La Jetee by MFO (DE), Kode9 (UK) & Ms. Haptic (UK)
As one of the key originators of dubstep and the founder of the pioneering UK label Hyperdub, Kode9 (Steve Goodman) requires little introduction. He is probably best known for his recordings and live shows with Spaceape. He also holds a Ph.D. in philosophy, and is the author of Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect and the Ecology of Fear.
For this concert, Kode9 will link up with Berlin video artists MFO and London based vocalist Ms. Haptic to present a live homage to the classic sci-fi film "La Jetée" by French director Chris Marker. Made in 1962, this short deals with time travel, memory and nuclear war. It's a film that Kode9 has had a long connection with – it actually provided the inspiration for the title of his debut album Memories of The Future.
The project was commissioned by and premiered at the Unsound Festival 2011, Krakow. The German premiere of this project will be the opening performance for the the festival Apokalypse Now (and then) – The End of the World in Pop Culture curated by Christoph Gurk and Tobias Rapp for the HAU theatre.
The presentation of Her Ghost will be followed by a one hour talk between Steve Goodman and Kodwo Eshun and a concert by Aethenor. Other participants of the festival include Simon Reynolds, The Caretaker, Jens Balzer, Dietmar Dath, Greg Tate, Diedrich Diederichsen, Bohren and der Club of Gore, Tu Fawning and others.
