KILIMANJARO DARKJAZZ ENSEMBLE
(Dälek, DJ, Ipecac)
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
(TKDE) formed in 2000 as a project to compose new music for existing silent movies. Jason Köhnen (aka Bong Ra
) and Gideon Kiers (of Telco Systems
), both graduates of the Utrecht School of Arts, combined their audio and visual skills to reinterpret classic movies by F.W. Murnau (Nosferatu) and F. Lang (Metropolis). In 2004 UK trombonist Hilary Jeffery and Swiss cellist Nina Hitz joined TKDE to record the self-titled debut album which was released on Planet Mu Records
in May 2006. The ensuing tour saw Eelco Bosman and Paris based vocalist Charlotte Cegarra join, forming the Ensemble into a sextet. Chrome Hoof
violinist Sarah Anderson joined in 2008 to supply the group with extra power on stage.
The Netherlands has been TKDE’s homebase since 2007, while members have moved closer to each other to make composing and producing easier. Apart from the mothership which is TKDE, there is another entity, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation, a live improv jazz/drone/doom sideproject consisting of TKDE
members and a host of interchanging guest musicians. The live recording of the
'Doomjazz Future Corpses' session was released on Ad Noiseam Records
The long awaited follow up to the self titled debut comes as an eight track EP on Ad Noiseam Records entitled 'Mutations EP', and the second full length album Here Be Dragons
was released this October 2009 on Ad Noiseam Records .
Oktopus will haunt you with assaultingly hypnotic rhymes and corrosively atmospheric, electronica-inflected hard rock sensibility. Get ready to experience a journey from sonic hip hop to jazz, from jazz to metal, from metal to punk, from punk to noisecore, from noisecore back to hip hop…Together with MC Dälek, producer Oktopus forms the US hip hop duo Dälek, which has rightfully gained iconic status as one of the finest alt-hip hop bands of our time. 2009 saw them release their sonic work Gutter Tactics on Mike Patton's Ipecac label. Nobody else can do what Dälek have been doing for a decade, and they remain as essential aesthectically as they should be politically – the result is a dark and truly unique vision of modern hip hop music.
Lambent is Japan born and Berlin resident by choicee, Akira Inagawa. In the late 90s he started his sonic explorations with ambient electronic. After a some very experimental years he gradually warped his sound into hip hop and started producing heavy beats. Nowadays he believes that hip hop is the most powerful music genre. In 2009 he released his 3rd record Isle of Ishigaki that borrows its title from a small japanese island on the Project Mooncircle label.
