DISK / CTM and CTM Concerts have been invited to contribute to the concert series of ISEA2010 RUHR at Konzerthaus Dortmund. Our pick is Mudboy, who will perform a specially composed piece on the organ of the Konzerthaus in collaboration with Petter Schuette. The second concert of the evening will be a solo performance of exceptional guitarist Fennesz.
Mudboy, the "doctor of organology" as he calls himself, creates music from all kinds of everyday noises and sounds. Field recordings of croaks and the twitting of birds are as much part of his repertoire as narrative performances and surround sound. The organ offers him further experimental ground. An expanded and modified church organ became his hallmark. Mudboy places emphasis on repetition and turns his audience with elements of noise, drone and psychedelica into a state of trance. In a sense, calling himself a doctor thus relates not only to his musical experiments. In Dortmund he will, together with collaborator Peter Schuette, perform a newly composed piece, which he wrote especially for the organ of the Konzerthaus Dortmund.
Mudboy released innumerous albums under as multitudinous labels, including the highly acclaimed This is Folk Music (Last Visible Dog, 2005) and Hungry Ghosts (Not Not Fun/Digitalis 2007). This year he released the album Impossible Duets: Collaborations Across the Void (Hundebiss records), assigning the duet its very special place within electronic music.
Peter Schuette is an american keyboardist who plays with a.o. Silk Flowers, Soiled Mattress and the Springs, or USA is a Monster.

The evening will proceed with Fennesz. The composer who wanders between the worlds of club culture and New Music is known for his compelling musical quality and abstract sound design. His typical reverberating guitar sound is interwoven with expansive electronic sound layers, which creates a very characteristic kind of music. The captivating electronic compositions go far beyond sterile computer arrangements and fascinate even sceptics of experimental electronic music. His long musical pieces are highly dynamic and full of suspense. Fennesz searches for the beauty of noise and dissonant elegance. For the concert at ISEA – like on his recent album Black Sea (Touch Music) – a whole range of instruments will be brought into action: acoustic and electric guitars, synthesizers and other electronic devices, and a computer. Fennesz releases on Touch Music. After Venice (2004, Touch Music) his latest record Black Sea was released in 2009. Over time he worked with Keith Rowe, Sparklehorse, David Sylvian, Ryoichi Sakamoto and many other artists and was a member of the trio Fenn O'Berg with Peter Rehberg and Jim O'Rourke. > www.fennesz.com
