One of the originals of the early noise industrial movement in the UK, Nurse with Wound declared their affection for surrealism, unsettling found sound collage and sinister soundscapes with their 1979 debut “Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella”. In the same orbit as groups like Throbbing Gristle and Current 93, Steven Stapleton, working with several different line-ups, and alone, has amassed a long and winding discography of limited editions and eccentric collaborations. Over more than 30 years, the project has shape shifted through improvisation, jazz, noise and show tunes while also venturing into combinations of rhythm, ambience and electronics preceding the early sound of the Warp label. Recent performances find Stapleton and crew exploring a freeform experimental fusion of electronics, tape and effects to create a deeply unnerving, transporting ambient experience.
