The myths and realities of music are explored in Dave Allen's artistic practice encompassing elements of music, video, performance and drawings. He previously recorded the silence within the spaces of famous concert halls and recording studios – documenting their silent ambience. Allen's latest works continue his ongoing exploration of music and deal with ideas of (unrealizable) composition, examining the possibility of using the negative parts of music, i.e. the breaks and silences to make new compositions. The wall-text realised by him for club transmediale.05 "Mirrored at Mean Mid-Point Comp" attempts what is practically impossible to achieve: By creating an anti-composition he will try to "silence" the music. The text describes how soundwaves should be inverted in their highs and lows with the goal of completely erasing all sound. This is based on the idea that if you play a waveform and its inversion simultaneously silence is obtained. Glasgow-born artist Dave Allen lives in Berlin.
