Gernot Böhme studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at the university of Göttingen amongst others. From 1965 to 1969 he was a research assistant at the University of Hamburg and the University of Heidelberg.
Between 1970 and 1977 he worked as an research associate at the Max-Planck-Instutit at the topic "Erforschung der Lebensbedingungen der wissenschaftlich-technischen Welt" (Research of living conditions in a scientific-technical world) in Starnberg. In 1977 Böhme became professor for philosophy at the Technical University of Darmstadt and held this chair untill 2002. 1997 to 2001 he was spokesperson of the post graduate programme "Technisierung und Gesellschaft" (technization and society). Today he's head of the "Institut für Praxis der Philosophie e.V. (IPPh)" (institut for practice of philosophy registered society) in Darmstadt.
