From the cradle of 'Notts' came Brackles (Rob Kemp), purveyor of skittery, leftfield garage. With releases on Geiom’s Berkane Sol imprint, Pollen, Applepips and now Planet Mu, Kemp has moved from warm-up DJ at the London Sunday dubstep night, >>Fwd, to sought after producer in the space of a short couple of years. He’s made appearances on Rinse FM and been involved with high-profile remixes for the likes of Kid Cudi, Tempa T, and MSTRKRFT.
Kemp is originally from Hertfordshire, but went to university in Nottingham where he came into contact with partner-in-crime Shortstuff and the bigwigs of the 'Notts' (Nottingham) scene, Geiom, Spamchop (Wigflex) and the Futureproof crew. Rinsed in Nottingham (bassline and grime) through his formative years, Kemp came out a freshly scrubbed DJ/producer with a healthy appreciation for 2-Step and garage and a nostalgia for 90s sounds and pop-culture. His productions have become instant classics, despite Kemp’s intentions, "I never really set out to be a producer," he says in a recent interview, "I just downloaded a demo of FruityLoops out of curiosity cause that was what people at school were saying you needed to make tunes, so I thought I'd have a go." He recently established his own imprint: Blunted Robots.
