Nicholas Bussmann is a Berlin based musician and composer. He began as a cello player. As many others he put his instrument aside for a while and embarked on the new possibilities computers and electronic devices offered. Repetitive structures or patterns of daily life are often a starting point of his work. The representation of emotions in music is another topic. The Video “Etüde in bürgerlichen Gefühlen” (2009) and the opera “Barnes Dance” for 7 singers, 4 drummers and a joker (2010) are outstanding works of his. He has long term collaborations with Martin Brandlmayr (Kapital Band 1), Chico Mello (Telebossa) and Lindy Annis. He regularly organizes the Grand Prix d’Amour in Berlin (a competition for love songs), and occasionally curates programs for institutions such as Maerzmusik or Haus der Kulturen der Welt. He toured in Europe, Japan, North and Middle America and published about a dozen CDs. He occasionally teaches at the Udk Berlin.
