With a Casio keyboard, microphones, sampler and beat box, Japanese artist Doddodo (Renda Rec, Adaadat) makes cute cut-up mayhem. Low and dirty beats are mashed with toy melodies; found sounds, country music and banjos, and gut wrenching vocals.
Live, Doddodo is masked in braids and ribbons, but unmistakeable. Using toys and other mysterious apparatus to operate equipment, samples and loops build up into frenzied spastic broken beats, which she tops off with deep-throat treatment for her microphone. With the whole mic in her mouth, she howls, talks, sings and screams, loading and reloading the sampler with equal parts kawaii and death metal.
Doddodo has been releasing music since 2002, contributing to many compilations including Japanese breakcore label Renda Rec compilation
Tsunbosajiki (2005), Adaadat’s
Trade and Distribution Almanac vol. 2 (2003),
J-Pop Terrorism (2003) and
Longbelonglongbelong (2002). She has released two CDRs: a full length
Greatereatdoddodo (2003) and a six track
Slimecore (2004); and a split release with Marousa (rend001,2002). She has recently toured extensively in Europe and Australia.
