Brooklyn native Drop the Lime, (Luca Venezia) is an electronic producer, vocalist, DJ and head honcho of dance label, Trouble and Bass. His raw, incendiary sets with live vocals earned him a residency at London’s Fabric, and he has an impressive back catalogue of productions and remixes. He also produces house under the moniker Curses! for French label, Institubes. A new DTL album is out early 2010.
Venezia was in a gospel choir in high school. He later went to Bart University to study jazz guitar, but under the influence of pioneering electronic musicians Bob Bielecki and Richard Teiltelbaum, Venezia embraced the world of midi and max/MSP. Until 2005, Venezia composed mainly breakcore music, but later moved to a more house-influenced sound.
Trouble and Bass was founded in 2007, and in 2008 Venezia changed his focus to more mainstream dance music, remixing tracks for Armand Van Helden, Little Boots, Robyn, Blaqstarr, Moby, Rex the Dog, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Buraka Som Sistema. Venezia began producing 4/4 Chicago house influenced music under the moniker Curses! in summer of the same year, and through his Myspace page scored a record deal with Parisian label Institubes.
