Eboy are a Berlin based (with one member in NY) collective making pixel art. Steffen Sauerteig, Svend Smital and Kai Vermehr came together in 1998, an era of low band-width internet, a time when tiny pixel drawings made uploading sense and allowed for total control over the end (screen) result. Peter Stemmler in NYC joined the group some time later working on his own vector-based pictures.
Their illustrations mix popular culture and commercial icons in wild imaginary worlds populated with aliens, pimps, robots, cars, guns and girls. They combine attractive simplicity with riotous complication, gaudy artificiality with organic complexity. The isometric angles engender nostalgia for more pixel-challenged times, 16 bit games video games, old desktop icons, old cartoons, Where’s Wally (Wo Ist Waldo).
Eboy’s unmistakable pixel style has garnered a devoted following among graphic designers, and an impressive list of clients including Adidas, Paul Smith, Grooves magazine, The Guardian and The New York Times.
