Born in Sydney in 1975, percussionist Claire Edwardes is well known for her combination in performance of a strong, personal interpretation and exciting presentation.
She studied percussion at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Rotterdam and Amsterdam Conservatories and has Master of Music degree. Claire had much success in many competitions throughout the world and was named Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year in 1999 and the 2001 Llangollen International Instrumentalist Competition (Wales).
Claire Edwardes is a founding member of Ensemble Offspring (Australia) and has initiated several new ensembles in Europe including her percussion duo, Duo Vertigo. She has been invited to perform as soloist and chamber musician at festivals such as the Huddersfield Festival of Contemporary Music, International Gaudeamus Music Week and The Birtwistle Festival and Cutting Edge series?, London and as a soloist she has performed with orchestras such as Het Brabants Orkest, Melbourne Symphony and Sydney Symphony.
She has close working relationships with many composers including Harrison Birtwistle, James Wood and Ross Edwards. Future commissions include works by Sam Hayden, Dominik Karski, Elena Kats-Chernin, and Michael Smetanin.
Claire recently recorded The Axe Manual with Nicolas Hodges on the Metronome Label and has just returned from The Banff Centre where she recorded a new CD with her percussion duo. Upcoming engagements include concertos with the Radio Chamber Orchestra (Holland), the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Ensemble Offspring (Australia), Zephyr Quartet (Holland).
