Fuckpony is Jay Haze and Swiss collaborator Samim’s newest and most playful project. The berlin-based duo borrow from Caro’s elctro-funk toy box for their little pony-house project, and they delve into the history of dance music too, pulling out slatherings of old Chicago beats, claps and diva vocals and mixing them with acid (skanky) and synths (mournful). Celebrate the hedonism of dance, it’s an extravaganza for all those wanting to get down and rocking-horse around.
Featuring vocals from Big Bully, Shaniqua and Lil Dirrty Ghetto Bastard, the infectious nagging hooks of Fuckpony are the new ambassadors of Get Physical pop-art tech-house. Three 12”s were out in 2006.
Ride the Pony was first in April with cartoon cowboys, sparkles and little ponies on the cover in equal measure; it and the others were taken from the debut album
Children Of Love, which came out in July. All Fuckpony releases have been on Get Physical, except the
Lost in Deep 12”, dropped on Haze’s Junion in November last year.
Jay Haze (Justin McNulty) has a substantial label stable in his care. After 5 years of DJing in the US, the Pennsylvania native started Tuningspork records with two friends in 1999. He is also at the helm of Contexterior Records and its sub, Junion, as well as Futuredub Records and the successful (more than 3 million downloads and counting) net-label Textone.
Samim Winiger, recently relocated to Berlin from Switzerland, is one half of the duo "Samim & Michal" whose first EP
Dini Muater appeared on the Zurich based label Stattmusik. They went on to release three successful EPs (
F,
Angel and
Ripop) on Jay Haze's Tuningspork and Textone Imprints.
Haze and Samim are best known for their funky quirky techno under the name Bearback. With three much in dj-demand releases on Haze’s collaborations-only label Tuning Spork Family Affair.
