In contrast to many other dubstep artists Kamal Joory (aka Geiom) does not come from a UK garage background, in a record store most of his releases would rather be found in the IDM/electronica section. The Nottingham-based producer debuted in 2000 with records on labels such as City Centre Offices and Neo Ouija. After the release of his critically acclaimed debut album
Sellotape Flowers he however disappeared from the limelight for a while. He caused a stir again in 2005, when dubstep pioneer Kode9 decided to include Geiom’s track
Overnight Biscuits in his mix for the
Dubstep Allstars series. Encouraged by this success, Geiom launched further excursions into dubstep territory with three excellent single releases on his own imprint Berkane Sol. In Berlin, Geiom will present his very own version of dubstep, that fuses avant-garde sounds with hypnotic bass lines, in the form of a live set on an Atari and various analogue instruments.
