Winfried Gerling is Professor of Concepts and Aesthetics of New Media for European Media Studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam. His main areas of research are: cross-media formats (and development), visual media science (Bildwissenschaft), photography and digital media in the contexts of art and exhibitions. He studied fine arts at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin (until 1994), after which he co-founded and was creative director of multimedia production company, mib GmbH Berlin. Since 1993 he has been developing interactive media for museums and exhibition spaces.
