Thomas Gilgen, 42, was initially active in the field of architecture, then became a club owner, and now considers himself a radio broadcaster. Significant projects include Restkultur.ch and Dachkantine.ch in Zurich, as well as Openbroadcast.ch in Basel. Open Broadcast is the first completely 'user-generated radio' in Switzerland.
The terrestrial radio station broadcasts material which was developed by the community on the Open Broadcast internet platform. The vision behind it is of an internationally relevant internet platform for people who are active in scientific, cultural and media fields. Over time, on this platform, a growing community is expected to produce qualitative radio focussed on culture and knowledge. Open Broadcast is a public utility, non-commercial organization and operates under the principles of open source, open content and open access.
