Ida No, originally from Vancouver, Washington, met Jonny Jewel (aka John David V, Twenty Six), originally from Austin, Texas, in Portland and they soon began working together. Their early work blended noise and stripped down disco rock; their first single, as Glass Candy & the Shattered Theatre, was 'Metal Gods' in 2001. The same year they toured with The Convocation Of...  and released a live album on Maryland punk label, Vermin Scum.  Glass Candy’s first studio album, Love Love Love, was issued on indie post-punk Troubleman Unlimited Records in 2003, and a second full-length followed the next year.
 
The duo moved into electro territory with the addition of live bass and live drums with former members Dusty Sparkles and Ginger Peach, but for their most recent output as a duo they’ve been mining Italo Disco; the pair have received acclaim for their covers of classic disco and Balearic tracks. Johnny Jewel is also behind the synth-pop projects, Desire and Chromatics, with all three projects following the same configuration of Jewel plus female vocalist. Jewel and Troubleman founder Mike Simonetti’s label, Italians Do It Better, have established a reputation releasing disco / cosmic / Balearic music.
