Peter F. James is born in 1951 with a british pass in Germany. He studied law and economics. After detours as a retail manager and IT specialist he managed the RockCity Hamburg e.V. from 1992 to 1998. In 1993 he founded the VUT (German Association Of Independent Record Companies, Music Publishers and Music Producers). He is still president of the VUT today. Generally speaking, the VUT focuses its activities on the improvement of the economic situation of its members and offers a broad information service as far as the music business is concerned. He is also a board member of the German section of IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) and consulter of Messe Berlin (the company hosting the Berlin trade fairs) to install the music fair PopKomm in Berlin.
