The work
Crushed Cayenne focuses the city as a field of artistic experimentation, on the themes of public space, sustainability and self-organisation. Folke Köbberling and Martin Kaltwasser mount installations, exhibitions and interventions in urban space by which they question city life critically under the sign of privatisation and economic pressure, pointing out the practical examples of temporary uses and informal methods, as well as the possibilities for enlivening and reappropriating the terrain.
Crushed Cayenne for club transmediale is a cynical answer to the hedonistic consum and lifestyle in the 21st century. They will build out of found material a one to one model of a crashed SUV (sport utility vehicle).
These cars become more and more popular in the last years, and almost each car producer has developed it's own SUV, although they use a lot more petrol and space and produces more co2-output than "normal" cars.
In club transmediale the crashed car is placed on a platform and with its higher position it becomes an icon character. The work can be used as a sitting lounge. In its crash the SUV develops its real aesthetic.
