Krikor Kouchian made his first try on a sampler in 1995 during his sound engineer studies… for the best! Fond of funk music and of bass guitar (he spent one year improving this skill at the Bass Institute of Technology of Los Angeles), he first come to production by remixing Frédéric Galliano.
In 1997, he leaves his birth city of Valence to settle in Paris where he sets up the label Root Down with Sandrine Arnone, label on which he comes out a bunch of groovy 12’’, among them the famous remix from the “Love on the Beat” of Gainsbourg. But its arrival in the capital city first enables him to have a great success as a DJ: resident of the “Paradise Massage” parties at the Rex Club, and now in le Nouveau Casino with Christophe Lemaire for Série Limitée and in London in the 333 Mother, he also impresses a lot during his laptop + drum machine lives, spiced with silly noises and mad sounds of all kinds.
In addition to his numerous bookings in France or abroad, Krikor’s today trully recognized among the Parisian electronic scene, where he plays a major role. He produces remixes and original tracks for many labels: a solo EP on Karat, some remixes of Octet and Minimal Compact released on Diamondtraxx and Cramed, a track on the “Katapult Various Artists” compilation, an original and a remix of Ark on Battle, another 12’’ on Karat with his fellow under the eloquent name of Krikark…
Krikor also impresses with his skill to play succesfully with the contradictions: from a groovy house to a funky techno, from electro to booty bass. He’s also inspired by the minimal techno scene, especially by labels like Perlon or Brüchstuecke. No doubt that his eclectism will lead him to success! The story continues in the next few monthes with an acid 12'' on Tigersushi, another one on his label with remixes of Safety Scissors, Benjamin Morandeau and Chloé and a new EP on Karat coproduced by Cabanne.
