MEC is the acronym of Motards En Colere (roughly "The Angry Bikers"), a trio of digital hardcore musicians from Paris associated with the design/fashion collective
Shoboshobo. MEC need motorcycle helmets for their unpredictable electro-punk performances. The trio hunch on the floor over analogue hardware with combinations of pedals for harsh headbanging sessions. The helmets are fitted internally with contact mics, adding a screamingly new dimension to the barrage of noise. The performances are short, energetic with rough beats and lyrics loaded with anti-car polemic.
MEC also produce a game-art/performance-art/sound-installation called
Motor Karaoke. Developed by Mehdi Hercberg and Raphael Seguin, Motor Karaoke is a simulated bike race powered by the screams of the participants. The louder they scream, the faster they go.
MEC is headed by Shoboshobo designer
Mehdi Hercberg aka Minifer. Hercberg creates/performs music, as well as teaching applied arts and organizing events. Hercberg’s music is experimental in the literal sense – a continual process of research rather than a polished, finished product.
Stephane Laporte (Domotic) is primarily concerned with pop music, explored through multi-dimensions of strange sounds, micro details and electronics. He has released several albums on French Post-Electronica label, Active Suspension.
Oliver Lamm (O.Lamm, Odot) has been producing melodic, colourful pop-tronica since 1999. He’s released his music on Active Suspension, Evènement and Audio Dregs.
