Meissner is a sound and media artist who lives and works in Frankfurt/Main and Vienna. Using a multi layered artistic personality (Autokontrast, Autopoieses – together with
Ekkehard Ehlers –, Bizz Circuits, Klimek, Open Source, Random Industries,
Random_Inc) his works deals with urban/cultural/social scenarios, randomness, historical music archives and strategies of networking. Together with Israeli artists
Ran Slavin and
Eran Sachs he established the network platform
Intifada Offspring, which aims to gain new perspectives on the middle-east region. His recent collaboration with digital media artist
Lia Tiny Little Elements explores the interrelationship of software based audio and real time visual composition. As a duo their performances couple Lia's live processed sound-reactive visuals with image oriented electronic music by Sebastian Meissner to create multi-layered intricate pieces.
Meissner’s sound work has been released by labels such as Mille Plateaux, Kompakt, Sub Rosa, Crónica and Beta Bodega. He has worked for the now disfunct influential Mille Plateaux media label. Over the years his works has been presented by festivals and institutions such as club transmediale (DE), Sonic Square (BE), Podewil (DE), Portikus Frankfurt (DE), Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (DE), Festival for Jewish Culture Crakow (PL), Goethe Institute Buenos Aires (AR), Goethe Institute Ramallah (PAL), SONAR (ES), MUTEK (CA), Kulturhuset Stockholm(SE) and Forsythe Ballet (DE) Meissner studied Education, Sociology, Psychoanalysis and American Cultural Studies at the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.
