Roberto Mendoza from Tijuana has been one of the main figures in the Mexican electronic sound scene since the eighties. After co-founding the post-industrial techno band Artefakto in 1987, in the nineties he became associated with Nortec, a collective using electronica combined with popular traditional Mexican norteño music. As a soloist (Panoptica or Mendoza) he explores the overlapping aesthetics of house, techno, breakbeat, dub and traditional Mexican music. Deconstructing and remixing these influences from different platforms and styles, he presents a kind of new „Mexican post-electronica“.
