Daniel Meteo, DJ and producer, is working behind the scenes as often as in the open. In Berlin for a decade, Meteo is an integral spoke in the local electronic music community staging events, promoting, DJing, and remixing. He has close ties with both
Shitkatapult and
Pole’s ~scape label and runs his own imprint, Meteosound. Along with
Tom Thiel, he's one-half of the dub/hip-hop electronica duo Bus and in 2006 released his debut solo album,
Peruments.
Meteo started out playing bass and guitar in punk orientated bands before becoming enthralled by reggae. After moving to Berlin, he became closely involved with
Oceanclub (
Thomas Fehlmann and
Gudrun Gut) and DJed for labels such as ~scape and Shitkatapult in venues like WMF and Maria. In 2000, Meteo set up
Meteosound – closely intertwined with Shitkatapult – with the inaugural release
Replay, an album of remixes from Berlin talent like Fehlmann, Paul St. Hiliare, Sun Electric and
Rechenzentrum.
Tom Thiel (Sun Electric) and Meteo formed a partnership in the same period with the project
Bus. They released their debut album,
Middle of the Road (~scape) in 2002 and followed up with
The Diamond EP, some remixes on Meteosound, and finally their second and last album to date,
Feelin' Dank (~scape ) in 2004. Meteo has been part of the Shitkatapult team (alongside Marco Haas aka
T.Raumschmiere and Sascha Ring aka
Apparat) for some years.
Meteo is a recognised remixer in his own right (for Apparat, Orb, DNTEL and
Masha Qrella to name a few). He’s also released several 12”s on his own imprint, Meteosound, before his debut solo full length in 2006,
Peruments, and has more recently made a couple of outings on Kalk Pets, a sub of Karaoke Kalk.
