Jo Mitchell, born 1965, lives and works in London. Mitchell uses words as objects, usually rendered as ornately embellished stilistic onomatopoeia. The exaggerated lettering styles are loaded with subcultural references such as graffiti, tattoos, heavy metal record sleeves or airbrush designs. Her ambigious text pieces in form of cut-outs or wall-paintings allude to desire, aggression and violence.
