Nik Nowak, born in Mainz and a graduate of the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, creates objects primarily as a means to engage with electronic music. In order to share his idiosyncratic line in electronic music with the public, he developed a wholly diverse range of "Mobile Boosters", i.e. portable or at least flexible sound systems. These innovations culminated eventually (after several predecessors) in the so-called "Panzer" (Tank). Under the motto "hit me with music", he perfected not only the sound but also the mobility, so the tank is now far from being limited to the everyday asphalt jungle. Nik Nowak describes his creations for the
Mobile Booster series as some kind of response to the increasing anonymity of life in virtual space. He claims his work is rooted primarily in jam sessions in the park, which were still fairly common in the 1980s. By contrast, he points out, people today mainly "get together" online and anonymously. His Panzer is designed to counter this cultural shift.
