Jesse runs London's Front Room Recordings, Made to Play & Loungin' Recordings. Propounder of ‘fidget House’ – 4/4 beats and big bass with sampled vocal snippets and melodies – via Dubsided, Jesse Rose is a producer/DJ/label boss with regular slots at London’s Fabric and a residency at his monthly Made to Play night at Berlin’s Panorama Bar. Rose produces under a range of aliases including Izit? with Trevor Loveys and Induceve alongside Dave Taylor aka Solid Groove/Switch on Derrick Carter’s Classic label, and also releases on Simple, Freerange REKIDS and Get Physical. Rose’s debut debut full length
What Do You Do If You Don't? is due early 2009 on Dubsided.
Partly raised in London’s Ladbroke Grove area, Rose moved to Bristol at the age of twelve, and has been playing records since the age of fourteen. He teamed up with Jamie Anderson at the beginning of the 90s to throw club nights in Bristol, and by 1995 had their own weekly club night and radio show called The Deeper Sound Of Bristol. In 1997, Jesse moved back to his hometown London and started playing out regularly. He recorded his first mix CD
Tec-House Living (1998) for the Subversive label under the Deeper Sound Of Bristol moniker. Around this time Rose and Anderson put out two EPs as Seventh Chord, one on Anderson’s label Artform, the other on London’s Eukatech.
In 2000 Jesse started setting up the Front Room Recordings label with Chris Belsey. The label boasts artists like Solid Groove, Trevor Loveys, Jamie Anderson, Atlantic Fusion, Rob Mello, John Tejada, Stefan Goldmann and productions and remixes by Rose himself. The label received support from throughout the house music community from DJs like Carter and Tiefschwarz. In 2006, Rose began working as Content with releases on Junior Boy’s Own and another collaboration with Jamie Anderson for the release of
Body Jackin on DJ Hell’s Gigolo label in 2007. 2007 was a productive year for Rose – he was featured in a range of dance music publications, nominated alongside four others for ‘Best British DJ' at the DJ Mag best of British Awards, was number four in IDJ players of the year and fourteen in Mixmag's best DJ's in the world 2007. Jesse finished a triumphant year playing in Sydney to 20,000 people on the main stage at Field Day. Alongside his busy tour schedule Jesse found the time to remix the likes of Hotchip, Armand Van Helden, Underworld, Simian Mobile Disco, Layo & Bushwacka!, Claude VonStroke, Radio Slave and more. His big achievement of the year was the respected
Body Language 3 compilation on Get Physical.
Induceve, Rose’s project with Dave Taylor (Switch), dates back to 2001 with the
Jazz Chops EP on Derrick Carter’s Classic label. Highlights include
Time To BeginMonolevel and on Classic as well as the
Pick It Up EP on Dubsided. In 2005, Rose began collaborating with Trevor Loveys with two EPs to date on Made to Play under the Izit? banner. More recently, Rose has started up a new project with Samim called Two Much Fun, and another with
Henrick Schwarz called Black Rose. Rose’s debut full length, in the making for upwards of three years, is due in early 2009.
What Do You Do If You Don't? includes the tracks
Forget My Name, which features Hot Chip's Joe Goddard on vocal duties, plus further collaborations with Hot Chip, David E Sugar, Switch and The Incredible Beatbox Band. Rose is currently based in Berlin.
