Mauricio Takara is been involved with the Brazilian music scene for many years. Attacking are senses using percussions, guitar, bass, keyboard, xylophone, computer and triangle to form scratchy, sketchy instrumentals that encompass Dub, Jazz, Breakbeat, and Post-Rock.
Takara is known across South America and the world through his many appearances in various bands. Drumming for singer Otto´s mix of Brazilian rhythms (with whom he played at Womex fest-Spain; Roskilde fest-Denmark; Optymus Hype-Portugal; etc), performing with Brazilian Hip-Hop group Instituto (played at the World Social Forum-Mumbai, India; Sonar Barcelona and Sao Paulo; Favela Chic – Paris; etc) and with Avantjazzrock band Hurtmold, with whom he’s recorded 4 acclaimed independent records, including a split cd with Chicago’s “The Eternals”. In addition, he’s currently working on a free improvisation duo with saxophonist Tomas Rhorer, collaborations with cornetist and abstractivist Rob Mazurek from Chicago (Isotope 217, Chicago Underground) and is taking part at an installation called “Dragaaudio” at the Resfest-Digital Film Festival, Sao Paulo.
It is in his solo work Takara brings it all together with tones and textures of abstract eletronica and minimal rock. Takara released the album “M.Takara”, 2003 (Submarine Records) and is in process of finishing his new album, set to be released in early 2005. At the live show, Mauricio Takara Plays drums, trumpet and computer; and teams up with Fernando Cappi (also From the band Hurtmold), who brings a more organic feel and adds Spontaneous sounds through his guitar, vibes and electronics. Creating an atmosphere full of live manipulation of electronics, free improvisation as well as tight beats and melodies.
