Berlin based, British Colombia expat Colin de la Plante (aka The Mole), DJ and sampleadelica producer, was acclaimed for his debut artist album, 2008’s
As High As the Sky (Wagon Repair). Plante was a member of the recently re-united
Modern Deep Left Quartet with the members of
Cobblestone Jazz before moving to Montreal, then Berlin, to pursue a solo career.
Plante started out in Victoria and Vancouver as a DJ in the 90s before moving into production. He recorded as The Modern Deep Left Quartet with all three Cobblestone Jazz members. MDLQ went into hiatus after a move to Montreal with both Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula, but when a studio theft forced Dhula and Tate to return to Victoria. Plante put down roots in Montreal, maintaining a seven-year residency at the Laika bar and making numerous appearances at the MUTEK Festival. He released music on Philpot, Musique Risquée and Revolver.
In 2007, Plante relocated to Berlin, just in time for the release of his debut artist album As High As the Sky (Wagon Repair) at the beginning of 2008. As High As the Sky won high praise from the music press and ended up in many best album polls at the end of the year. The Mole spent 2009 on various projects: a 12-inch, For The Lost / There’s Hope, for Norwegian deep house label, Internasjonal, run by Prins Thomas; the launch of a dedicated 7-inch label with partner in crime, Koosh; studio time with Cobblestone Jazz that resulted in Traffic Jam (Wagon Repair), and an MLDQ live performance closing out the MUTEK festival.
