Purform (CA) – „Black Box“
The duo Purform (AlainThibault – sound and Yan Breuleux – image) focusses on the creation of devices used for performances and installations alike. Accordingly, they have devised “Black Box”, a real-time audio-visual performance that explores the psycho-sensory effects of sound and electronic light synchronization from within an immersive environment. Black Box is made up of four screens set into a cube, and a quadrophonic sound system which spectators are invited to enter into. The project is based on the use of basic elements of visual and audio rhythm. It aims to deliver the most complex information with a minimum of base elements. In accordance with the duo’s principles, Black Box's language starts with a simple abstract proposition that evolves into a complex video and audio discourse.
System design: Luc Lavergne.

Pure & Dekam (AT/US) – „The Persistent But Irregular Plot“
On the heels of their groundbreaking DVD release on dOc records, Pure (sound) and Dekam (visuals) present the world premiere of their work, specifically designed for quadraphonic sound and video. Visually the work employs a little known, long forgotten technique for the instantaneous exposure of sound energy. Employing an array of rescanned cathode ray tubes and a series of arcane algorithms, Dekam distills sound directly into absolute organic forms. These forms are created in the analogue realm, with the CRT array stimulated by audio signals instead of video and mediated by Dekams's unique process. In anticipation of this stunning visual system, Pure has prepared a live music performance comprised exclusively of synthetic processed sounds, without any references to concrete instruments or voices. The quadraphonic sound system is used to its fullest potential to create an arena with aleatoric movements along its borders, diagonals, and at marked points within the space. “The Persistent but Irregular Plot” promises to be a truly synaesthetic space that can be explored by the audience both internally and externally and from countless perspectives.

Bas Van Koolwijk (NL) – „FDBCK AV“
A live performance in which Van Koolwijk generates a feedback control circuit between audio and video signals, thus transforming audio and video into two facets of a self-sustaining data stream. Once connected and switched on, “FDBCK/AV” becomes a cybernetic entity feeding on numerical values. External control is established by injecting extra data into the system to manipulate parameters for the algorithmic interpretation of image to sound and sound to image. The application by which this is achieved makes no use of camera or movie input. All sound and image data are generated real-time within the feedback system using digital video basics.
