The Internet of the 20’s, the Napster of the 80’s: in spite of constant innovation in broadcasting technology, radio is still the number one global media. Tho’ almost forgotten in the hype of the dot.com era, radio has now been reclaimed by a new breed of artists. The 90's promising new media - web pages and net radios - didn't pan out, so the ether is where it’s at: local, cheap, technically accessible and legally possible.
Making art for radio means something different in 2005 than it did in the 50's or the 80's. The spectrum has changed. Taking up the acoustic space as a playground for artists and listeners means experimentation: using the old, discarded media, the latest high tech gadgets and anything else that might come in handy.
An open discussion on the state of open-access broadcasting, organised by reboot.fm and CTM. reboot.fm is an independent radio station and an open-source-development project based in Berlin. It will broadcast the CTM programme as an Internet-Stream and on Offener Kanal, Berlin’s public access channel.
