Umatic (NL) – „ResonanCITY“
Many sounds and images in our everyday lives slip by unnoticed, simply because they are too small or because we lack the proper receivers to pick them up. „ResonanCITY'“ is an ongoing project that gathers these microscopic sounds from various cities, and amplifies and transforms them. The goal is to build a new city of sound and visuals inside the old one, that will awaken curiosity and inspire exploration of one's own environment. Umatic is a media art collective based in Utrecht, whose members comprise amongst others Derek Holzer, Sarah Kolster and Bas van Koolwijk.
Yannis Kyriakides (CY/NL), HC Gilje (NO/DE), Claire Edwardes (NL) – „Lab Fly Dreams“
Lab Fly Dreams (or “dreams of a jet-lagged fruit fly”) is a collaboration from composer Yannis Kyriakides and visual artist HC Gilje. It is an hommage to the suffering fly, whose sleep patterns are studied by geneticists the world over in order to understand the workings of our own circadian rhythms. The flies are subjected to all manner of sleep deprivation, such as persistent tapping whenever they stay still for more than a minute. What do those flies in plastic containers dream about? Originally written as a BBC commission for the Icebreaker Ensemble and Orkest de Volharding, this reduced version is scored for solo percussion and 8-channel electronics.
