Pulling us through the night like a promise to the here and now, the bass is a wave that overwhelms us – utterly complete unto itself. Thomas Meinecke describes the magic of bassdrum, as he approached the U 60 311 Club in Frankfurt, "You come closer and nearby drain covers are rattling. You simply want to get down there. The drain cover is rattling – you want to go down.” And a similar feeling might come over you at MAO tonight, where devotees of profound seduction are gathered and ready to take the stage: TTC are the new stars in France’s Hip-Hop-heaven. TTC stands for Tido, Teki Latex and Cuizinier and for an advanced fusion of Hip-Hop and Electro-dance music. From somewhere between Grime inspired rumble, fat beats, electro-collages, 80s Mash-Up and crowd-pleaser hook-lines emerges TTC’s absurd and brilliantly humorous universe, a microcosm that wraps up thorny issues without trepidation. Since TTC released their recent second album, "Batards Sensibles” on the Ninjatune offshoot Big Dada (which also has Roots Manuva under contract), a wildly enthusiastic music press has fallen over itself to note references from Daft Punk to Prefuse 73. The original trio now takes the stage, reinforced by DJ Orgasmic, as a rampantly snotty horde of hysterics that will bring tears to your eyes. TTC are a deep thumping dancehall beauty: raw and unadulterated kick-your-ass-entertainment. At CTM 06 they meet up with Berlin’s maestros of contagious beats, Modeselektor and Phon.o. If that’s not enough for you, then dance on till dawn with Ellen Allien's straight bassdrum. It could end up looking something like what Jeff Noon described in 1993 in his trailblazing work, “Vurt,” (to loosely quote him): "Crowd went crazy, pulsed to the rhythm, and Beetle danced through the air, while the beat made him quiver. Looked like his body might implode at any moment. He called my name, begged me to not let the bass penetrate any more deeply … But Babe, there’s no going back! Do you know that feeling? I bet you do.”
