This evening is an invitation to raise your glass to that in-between realm in which rock and club music converge. For his glittering tracks, self-confessed Steely Dan fan Jason Forrest slices together great moments from prog, glam, hard and jazz rock, funk and punk, marching band and modern composition – a genre clash he celebrates as ecstatic and gleeful copyright infringement. In doing so, he relies on his acute sense of the dramaturgies and manifold sound manipulating techniques of contemporary club music, which he masters from the hip in his parallel musical incarnation: DJ Donna Summer. On stage he also picks from rock what he likes best: although armed with nothing but a lousy laptop, the shameless intensity of his shows is legendary. Tonight he'll kick start the show with a sneak preview of his new album
The Everything, due out on the Staatsakt label in April 2011.
The New York noise-pop duo Sleigh Bells rocks us into a new dimension of digital hardcore, blending honey-sweet r'n'b vocals with bombastic hiphop beats, squelching synths and a wall of fuzzed-out guitars. The duo gives up some aggro without being macho yet steers clear of cuddly with a sexy and savvy sense of fun. Positively Loud! - a sure-fire path to sensory overload.
