By experimenting with concrete sounds and audio tape machines in the late 50s,
Pierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer brought forth a radically new musical genre, Musique Concrète. Henry, the latter’s charismatic spokesman, transferred this new aesthetic and its production methods from its academic breeding zone to the field of popular music – which always had an open ear for technical innovation. He thereby laid an important stepping-stone for the subsequent development of electronic music, and helped to established sampling, sequencing and processing as some of its basic parameters that remain valid to this day.
The Art of Sounds portrays Henry, who is now 80 years old, as a pioneering, crossover populist and indefatigable researcher of acoustic phenomena.
