Wow and flutter-type clip-documentations from New Yorker, Derek Saybel, who describes Circuit Bending – the individual modification of mass-produced electronic instruments – as a counter-cultural phenomenon. Circuit Bending can equally be considered as global resentment of the increasingly widespread digitalisation of the means of cultural production, and as a critical reaction to a society that is ever more radically conditioned by consumer electronics and prescriptive formulas for their use. A non-commercial and decidedly nerdy network of international activists, which originated at the New York BENT Festival, now stays in touch across the globe via workshops, blogs and festivals.
