Most of the CTM.09
Music Program was compiled in collaboration with a selection of independent
Hubs & Initiatives that – like the CTM festival itself – are committed to non-conformist, autonomous, experimental and critical musical practice. In a 10-day-long extravaganza, club transmediale and its international partners will present club nights, concerts and unusual performances featuring the very best in today’s electronic and experimental music.
In traditional extravagant fashion,
Weekends at CTM.09 are devoted to the latest in electronic dance music – 90% of it performed live! The best opportunity in town to get an overview of how things stand between tropical, international ghettotech, digital laptop reggae, space disco, kraut electronics, edits, dubstep, house, fidget, minimal or Detroit-techno, and to enjoy some amazing visuals, to boot.
Weekdays, From Sunday thru Thursday concerts and AV-performances fathom new musical horizons with experimental sounds ranging from cracklin’ electronic to free improvisation, folk, drone metal and psychedelic pop. Each evening in Maria am Ostbahnhof and HKW is devoted to a certain theme, musical genre or network. Concerts begin punctually so we recommend you arrive in good time.
Site-specific
Installations and designs are a permanent feature of each edition of the festival, so this year too, we have invited visual artists and designers to interpret the festival theme, "Structures" and give the venue MAO a new look. One highlight this time is an extensive, walk-on-and-use sculptural installation from artist Sebastien Wierinck; another is the work of Berlin artists’ group visomat inc. in collaboration with Telematique and Errorsmith, "Habzeug", which uses computer animations projected precisely onto specially built structural elements to transform the spatial textures of the main hall at Maria am Ostbahnhof.
Festival Meltdown with the
CTM & MUTEK 10th Anniversary Party: Not only CTM, but our long-standing collaborator, the MUTEK Festival in Montréal, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2009 – a perfect excuse for a big fat party at the close of CTM.09. And what better place to do that than Berlin’s temple to excess? – See you on Sunday 1st of February from 12–21:00 at the Berghain/ Panorama Bar.
