<training_sculpture>, video installation, 2008
Maza shows scenes of female sport training sessions at the University of Florida. It is about collaborative effort, body aesthetics, and the structural framework of professional sport. Since the early 1990s, Maza’s work has focused on issues of gender, sexuality and identity as well as on the political and social construction of bodies and their media representation. In her new work-cycle the human body and typologies of real, fictional and/or simulated (urban) landscapes are thematized as (metaphorical) systems for the inscription of socio-political conditions. An exhibition with works by Marisa Maza is on display at the project space Uqbar parallel to the festival.
