Especially for CTM.09, Raster-Noton, the renowned Chemnitz based media-music-smithy around Carsten Nicolai and Olaf Bender, presents the first version of
rhythm_screen, a performance space in which sound, light and architecture are united into an overall concept.
The spatial setup for
rhythm_screen promises refined play with sound and light in which video projections controlled by the music are reflected, broken up and multiplied by mirroring surfaces. In four live audio-visual performances by
alva noto (Carsten Nicolai),
Byetone (Olaf Bender),
SND and
Frank Bretschneider, this interplay of sound, light, form and rhythm creates a spell-binding spatial experience that gives visitors the impression of being in an infinite dancehall.
The presentation of
rhythm_screen at CTM.09, which was developed by Raster-Noton in cooperation with touchdesign, sees itself as a first experiment that will be further developed in the future.
raster-noton – archiv für ton und nichtton is run by Carsten Nicolai and Olaf Bender and forms a unique platform and network that covers the overlapping border areas of pop, art and science. Raster-Noton emerged from the fusion of the two preceding labels rastermusic and noton (in 1999) and realises music projects, publications and installation works. The common idea behind all of Raster-Noton's works is an experimental approach: the amalgamation of sound, art and design.
