Institute, venue, curators, Rotterdam, NL.
WORM is a Rotterdam based non-profit foundation and multi-media alternative cultural center focused on experimental, new media art, avant-garde and underground art, primarily music and movies. WORM represents an artists collective, a venue, shop, cinema and workspace for music, film and new media, with the world as its playground. Transgressing normal segregations between media, they represent the authentic and the unruly, the obsessed and the adventurers.
Born under the stars of punk, dada, fluxus, situationism and futurism, WORM has grown to a tenacious organisation that combines the "do it yourself" mentality of it’s ancestors with ultra-pragmatism. The output of WORM is film, radio, concerts, performances, webprojects, installations, cd’s and a 24/7 webstation.
WORM focusses on OpenSource, recycled material and superuse of materials. WORM is funded by the Triodos Bank and part of the culture nota 2009-2012 from the Dutch government. The foundation has received the Pendrecth Culture Price and it's venue is part of the Rotterdam culture plan. WORM organizes festivals and concerts, movie nights, runs an independent record label, a radio station. Part of the organisation is also a media lab, a hackspace, and a music studio. The media lab and music studio both run free artist in residence programms for artists and experimental musicians. The organisation co-operates closely with TodaysArt, Dutch Electronic Art Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Poetry International, Incubate and State-X New Forms.
