A showcase of a fresh crop of Czech artists, presented by the Sperm Festival.
A couple of years ago, if you would ask anyone to name any Czech bands, they would very likely end up listing those from the 70's or 80's, e.g. Plastic People of the Universe or Už jsme doma. It's not that there was no music scene in the Czech republic – but it just (with few notable exceptions) wasn't interesting enough for the world to take notice. Even 20 years after the velvet revolution, Czech artists still had to catch up to the global scene, trying to find their place, their strengths. At last, this is now changing: "Bells & Whistles" presents the new generation of music projects that no longer merely copy and celebrate their western influences, but uncover their own world – authentic but still accessible. It comes as no surprise, that all members of all projects included in the showcase are visual artists, or students thereof.
By listening to
Table, you can tell that both members were born in the 80's – and good so!
TEVE melt soundscapes of loops & samples with fragile vocals and dream-ridden visuals.
Popper-C don't hide their love for house, but give it a unique twist.
Schedule:
21:15 - TEVE
22:15 - Table
23:15 - Popper-C
The Sperm Festival is a contemporary art, music and visual culture event held annually in April in Prague since 2006. This year's theme "Crossing the Shadow" revolved around the inability of Czech music artists to make its mark on the world scene.
