CTM.12 AT THE PASSIONSKIRCHE - TIM HECKER & TOUCH MUSIC
CTM is pleased to make its first venture into Berlin’s Passionskirche with two high-profile concerts that see a group of critically acclaimed experimental musicians perform with the church’s massive organ.
The neo-romantic Passionskirche was erected between 1905 and 1908, and has been used as a concert venue for over 20 years now. The organ, built by Karl Schuke, a respected German organ maker that has build dozens of organs for churches all over the country, was only installed in 1967. During installation one of the churche’s massive windows had to be removed in order to bring the instrument in.
This weekend, CTM.12 features two concerts at this impressive venue. First, veteran Montreal experimental musician Tim Hecker mics the organ, and processes its powerful sound in real-time to explore the power, beauty, and dark side of this historically omnipresent instrument. Hecker's explorations will use his recent concept album "Ravedeath 1972", recorded with Ben Frost, as a starting point. Read more about his approach in this recent interview with Resident Advisor.
On Sunday, Mike Harding’s Touch label makes a special appearance to present their “Spire” project, which pushes the sonic limit of this historically omnipresent instrument. Organist Charles Matthews takes control of the organ during the group improvisation, which also sees solo performances by all of the Touch artists present at the concert.
