DISK Session 02: WILLITS/PURE |
Date: September 13, 2005
Time: 9 pm
CHRISTOPER WILLITS [US]
PURE & ALEXANDRA VON BOLZ'N [AT/DE]
Number two of DISK/CTM's new series is all about the guitar in a digital environment:
San Francisco based guitarist, composer, producer, painter, and sound designer Christopher Willits, for the first time in Berlin, combines real time software-processing and guitar improvisation to generate a unique mixture of melody and rhythm. Guitar harmonies fold into each other using custom-designed software; notes and phrases hook and weave, creating complex patterns of interlocking rhythms, melodies and textures. At CTM Studio Session 02 he will do a live performance and afterwards in an informal setting will talk about the ideas and concepts behind his work. This presentation is realized in collaboration with the ORGINALFASSUNG projekt, and is number 29 of this ongoing series of talks and presentations.
Pure – who just blew our ears with an absolutely mind-tweaking DJ-set at this past WASTED 2 festival – will present some brand new material. Pure currently experiments with digitally created guitar sounds, layered and interwoven into complex drone-like soundscapes. Most curious one should be on his first-time collaboration with Berlin based singer Alexandra von Bolz'n, who will add some vocal layers on top of Pure's music. When not experimenting with Pure, von Bolz'n is vocalist and head of the Berlin Grindcore/Death/Noisecore band Bolz'n.
DISK Sessions are conceived as an irregular series of performances and presentations for a small audience and present the work of artists, who engage in the experimental exploration of the acoustic realm and the relation of sound and image. It is a format to present material and projects in progress and to encourage a direct and personal communication between artist/presenter and audience.
ORIGINALFASSUNG (Original Version) is a series of talks and discussions based on an understanding of collaboration rather than competition motivated by the curiosity of strangers or visitors to tap into different fields, such as science, music, architecture, art, dance, choreography, theater, film, politics, design, media, economics, journalism. ORIGINALFASSUNG is organized by Geoff Garrison, Heimo Lattner and Oliver Baurhenn.
