The abbreviation YUV is the term for a video picture's light and colour values and describes its construction. The conceptual videos presented under this heading undertake a similar deconstruction: they reduce the visual arsenal down to compositions of sound-triggered coloured surfaces and lines and underline the non-figurative character of electronic music. Contrary to music videos in which the band's and star's performance is enriched by pictures, the videos are presented as the visualisation of a conceptual text. A text which tells of cityscapes, the disruption of audiovisual reception, geometric compositions and digital codes and which is constantly restructured according to the rhythm of the editing and of the beats. The text which is fed by these videos describes a field which is both analogue and digitally generated. It is a field which spans from the avantgarde (animated) film of the 1920s and contemporary vj culture and so forms a visual archaeology of electronic music.
