| A screening programme with non-figurative videoworks with electronic music curated by Antje Weitzel and Mirjam Wenzel for CTM.03 – festival for electronic music and related visual arts.
The abbreviation YUV denotes the light- and color value of a video image and describes its structure. The concept videos which are presented under this label, undertake a similar destruction: they reduce the visual arsenal to sound-controlled structures of colored surfaces and lines thus underlining the non-figurative character of electronic music. In contrast to music videos where the performance is enriched by the images of bands and stars, the presented videos appear foremost as visualization of a conceptual text; a text which talks about city landscapes, audio-visual interruptions, geometric color compositions as well as digital codes and which continuously restructures itself according to the rhythm of the cut and the beat. The videos fed by this text describe a field generated in an analogue as well as a digital manner; a field which opens up between the avant-garde trick film of the 1920s, op art, the design of digital programs and today's VJ-culture and thus enables a visual archeology of electronic music.
